me as a person who loves space and knows a lot about it, I was able to understand interstellar and I really liked it, closest a movie has gotten to making me cry, definitely in my top four

I watched the whole show in one sitting, up until like 5am, wasn’t planning on watching the whole season but the vibe of the show caught me.

The movie was ok but i really didnt get why it got a 96 percent rotten tomato score, it feels like a 7/10 movie at best not a movie you will remember for a long time.

A waking life is a very interesting film, directed by Linklater, I would recommend it if you don't mind a little bit of philosophy

Glenn Powell is the worst actor name I've ever heard. His name is so forgettable that one won't even bother with his face. Even Glenn Pow Pow would've been better

I didn't care for Everybody Wants Some, I really only like Linklater's narrative efforts over "yeah mean it's just vibes bro". I'm reminded of Out Of Sight from what I've seen in the trailers which intrigues me

I enjoyed it, though I think it could've leaned into the dark comedy more. That end kind of sneaks up on you. I could imagine this movie being made in the 90s, something like Get Shorty, or later Kiss Kiss, Bang, Bang. Maybe that's the lack of cinematic style making me wish that. I'm happy for Adria Arjona. She was great in Irma Vep.

from a story/narrative structure I thought Fury Road was a car chase from point A to point B while Furiosa actually had an interesting plot so i'm surprised to see Man saying that Fury road "pales in comparison from a story/narrative structure point of view"

I watched it in the right order but I'm still on woman's train. I thought max in fury road felt redundant. There was no story and it was just a big car chase scene. Its cool. But its not much more than that to mee. about the lore dump aspect. I thought that fury road lacked lore so I was happy to get more of it. But even then I wanted more lore after seeing furiosa

It's been interesting to me because lots of people I know irl ended up hating the movie because of the ending. In their eyes it feels like the movie is saying murder is totally cool and groovy and the happy ending felt dissonant after such a horrific act. I think they're taking it at face value a little too much though. I really think the movie wants you to wrestle with whether choosing your own identity to get what you want is such a good idea after all.

10/10 movie. Loved it

Can confirm this killed in a theater. I got to catch this at The Egyptian Theater while visiting L.A. over Memorial Day weekend, and that “amazing scene” you talk about at 12:35 garnered applause. I really liked this movie, and it makes me happy to know someone else out there has seen and loves Everybody Wants Some!! too. Richard Linklater is the man.

This one wasn’t available on Netflix in Canada, but it was in the local theatre so I got to see it there and it was so much fun. I was the only person in the theatre.

i was thinking this movie must be up jake’s alley because he’s been into crime fiction for quite a while now! stopping at the spoiler section, will watch the movie and return afterwards like usual ^^; would you guys say it’s similar to The Nice Guys with Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling?

Eh' s' early af...😂 I didn't like the movie at all by the way. Expected a lot more from Linklater having appreciated and loved his genre defining films, which are some of the best ever.... Humor in this one seemed forced and cheap and kind of Hallmarky... And Glen Powell just has an annoying all-American boy face

Woman Hitting Man

When we went to watch it, this old man started to choke in the saddest scene of the movie. The only thing you could hear at that moment was the old man coughing, but I couldn't hold back my laugh. Anyways F in the Chat for that one Guy!

I was very mixed on this movie, I didn’t feel nearly the emotional power of the original, but I thought Anxiety was an inspired character and Maya Hawke’s voice performance was very good.

I couldnt disagree more with MCT's analysis of the film. As someone who has had to deal with racing or anxious thoughts and complex feelings of inadequacy and masking my internal racing anxieties on a near constant basis, this film made me feel SEEN. I like the first movie as a solid coming of age story but the climax of this movie was so critically resonant that it felt like going to therapy. Anxiety is the best new emotional character and Maya Hawke did a phenomenal job giving voice to her. I feel like years from now the themes and ideas from this movie will be taught in schools ro explain how neurodivergence works to kids.

This guy needs to realize that the movie is meant for kids.

I recommend watching Godzilla (1954), specifically the Japanese cut. It’s really interesting, especially if you know all of the history behind it.

12:31 Reggie first shows up in Bad Boys II. He comes to the house to take Marcus’ daughter out, then Mike & Marcus mess with him for a while. It’s one of the most popular scenes from the franchise. Jake definitely gotta watch the first two

*SPOILERS* I'm someone who has dealt with anxiety disorder for a few years now. I think a huge missed opportunity the movie had was being more creative. It follows beat for beat a lot of things from the first movie. It reminds me of the SNL sketches that have almost the same script but only change the guest star. It even has the "Joy starts crying because Riley is changing" part which never worked for me even in the first movie. But I think that seeing Riley's teenage years, seeing her deal with those emotions through high school and have her make big mistakes would've allowed the story to go to unexpected places. Anxiety isn't the type of thing a teenager gets and controls in 3 days, it would've been interesting to see how that affects you long term. I disagree with Jake here because I think the movie was not complex and was very simplistic. BTW, I've had panic attacks and I'm tired of people saying "Wow, they portrayed an anxiety attack" as if it was something new, haha. Having said that, I LOVE the core beliefs addition, when Anxiety dropped her last memories and her new sense of self was formed and it simply said "I'm not good enough"...oof, I cried, it hit too close to home, ngl. Overall, it was very personal to me and it's very special, but on the other hand I felt the story was very lacking.

I live in the Netherlands and for some reason this is only playing early July for some reason. This hyped me for whenever I get to watch it great review, also week 6 saying you guys should check out Ryusuke Hamaguchi :)

(Spoilers, maybe?) Riley grounding herself was the only spot where I had tears. They captured that breakthrough well, both inside her head and in the penalty box. Totally agree on the “maybe too complicated for its own good” observation. I liked it, but it felt clunky (and not just in the puberty-is-awkward way)

What keeps the audience emotionally invested is that the stakes of Riley’s real world keep getting bigger and more significant. Will she make the team? Will she lose her old friends at the cost of new ones? Can she hold to her code of ethics?

The main character wasn't a coward if you watch closely he didn't want to die because his mother made him promise to come back home alive after the war. He literally was devastated when he found out that his parents are already dead when he got home and which makes it more tragic as he contemplates deeply that not going thru his kamikaze mission was almost a very bad decision he made.
